The dry, cold air can zap the moisture straight out, leaving it dry and cracked.

When our skin loses moisture, it naturally becomes dry. To help combat this problem, it’s important to moisturize –especially in the winter. Unfortunately, while we often remember to moisturize our hands and face –our feet are often forgotten.

Here are some tips for keeping your feet moisturized this winter –and all year round.

Don’t Moisturize Between Your Toes
Moisturizing your feet is important –but make sure you don’t get too much moisturizer between your toes. Too much moisture creates the perfect breeding grounds for infections or fungus, so try to keep the areas between your toes dry.

Don’t Over Soak Your Feet
Oversoaking your feet or using hot water instead of warm water –can strip the natural oils from your feet and do more harm than good. Keep the water warm –but not too hot, and try not to leave your feet soaking for longer than ten minutes at a time.

Do Keep Them Dry
Feet should be kept warm and dry –applying too much moisturizer can be harmful. A little moisturizer goes a long way. If your feet get wet while out and about –be sure to change your socks as soon as possible. Dry them thoroughly after a shower or bath to help prevent fungal infections.

Do Have Routine Care
Having a regular foot care routine is important. Ideally – you should spend a few minutes every night caring for your feet –washing, drying and moisturizing them. With a routine you will also be able to notice any infections or issues sooner –and be able to address the problem before it becomes more advanced.

If you are looking for a podiatrist in the Houston area, contact Houston podiatrist Dr Lamarra of Shepherd Square Podiatry today.

Winter can wreak havoc on your skin.
